Boikido Eco Friendly Wooden Flower Counting Game

Boikido Wooden Flower Counting Game

Contents:

  • 1 central smiley face
  • 10 solid colored puzzel pece petals
  • 60 wooden pegs
  • 1 storage box with a drawer

Summery:

I got the Boikido Wooden Flower Counting Game to work with some of my special needs kids. The idea was to teach them counting but this game is so much more. After sliding open the store drawer and taking out the center smile, I notice that each petal was a different color. In addition the parts of the smile had a small sample of the color. For example the number five petal is in red. This is great because if the child I am working with does not know the numbers, then can match up the colors. After putting the puzzle together from 1-10, the child now gets to count. Instead of counting pictures on a card or object, the child gets to count as they place the pegs into the flower. This is amazing. The child gets multi sensorial feedback.

When I work with kids, I like to incorporate more then one skill into each game. For example, when playing with the Boikido Wooden Flower Counting Game the child gets to see the number on top of each petal. After seeing the number, they get to count out the pegs as they place it into the petal getting some practice as well as fine motor skills into the game.

Pros:

  • Counting
  • Colorful
  • Fine motor skills
  • Eco-friendly
  • Easy to use

Cons:

  • The pegs are a little small for the child to grasp and will roll away fast. It would have been nice to see maybe larger pegs with small nobs on top.
  • The box is way to large. I try to store the toys in the boxes it comes in so I can easily see what it is, but this box is way to large. I will keep it because it is sturdy and well build but I am not happy with the waste of space.

Suggestions:

  • Try using it as another fun occupational therapy toy. I have kids who need the fine motor skills but are not able to count so we start off by matching the colors of the petals. After the petals are all in place, the child has to add the pegs. There is no counting involved but the friendly smile of the flower makes it more fun to do.
  • If you child is getting better at number, try having them arrange the flower petals in order of the number from 1-10. This is more for the advanced child but it will be fun to see if they can do it.

Age Range:

  • 3-5
  • Child learning to count
  • Child who needs a fun fine motor skills toy

Bottom Line:

I bought the Boikido Wooden Flower Counting Game to help a child who is learning to count. Not only did I get a great counting toy, but it ended up being good for so much more. This hands on activity flower is great for counting, fine motor skills as well as colors. The eco friendly design is perfect for helping your little one lean to count.
